Daredevil Born Again Trade Paperback Value

Hi everybody and welcome to another outcome in LOCKS & LOCKSHOTS!  Every other week, I am going to a pick a few characters or books that I believe are locks for a TV prove or movie appearance and a few that I think are not particularly likely, but are however possible.  I will almost never cull characters or books that are expensive to invest in or who have already been essentially confirmed for an appearance. As some groundwork on me, I am a comic volume reader who reads dozens of articles almost the entertainment industry every day.  I use this potent cognition of the innerworkings of the entertainment industry and combine it with my deep comic book knowledge in lodge to come up with speculation opportunities.  Every bit a result, these predictions will often be very far ahead of the marketplace, as they are based less in rumors and more than in business concern logic and deductive reasoning.  Allow me know what you think in the comments and I hope you enjoy!

Locks

Songbird

WHO IS SHE – Melissa Golden was born on the wrong side of the tracks to an alcoholic father and a mother in prison.  Eventually she ran away from home and lived on the streets, where she adult a difficult edge to her personality in order to survive.  This ultimately brought her into contact with Baron Zemo, who invited her to join the Masters of Evil.  After many of the world's heroes disappeared in a fight with the villain Onslaught, Melissa and the other Masters decided to pretend to exist heroes and formed the group chosen the Thunderbolts.  Every bit a part of the ruse, she took up the codename Songbird.  This would be a major turning point in Melissa's life, as her experiences pretending to be a hero ultimately inspired her to give upward her life of crime and try to genuinely benefit in the world.  Throughout all of these adventures, her powers varied, just by and large involved the manipulation of audio waves to create piercing sonic attacks.

WHY SHE IS A LOCK – I have been avoiding writing about Songbird in this column for a long time now because I was not certain I would be able to practise the graphic symbol justice.  It blows my mind that more people are not talking about this phenomenal grapheme and how big a layup her inclusion in the MCU is.  For i thing, the grapheme is and then incredibly well fleshed out.  Rooting not simply her villainy, simply too the difficult edges of her personality in the abuse she suffered from her alcoholic father and experiences living on the streets lends so much gravitas and authenticity to Songbird's narrative and brand her stories that much more interesting.  This is accentuated even further by her incredible character progression, every bit readers are treated to one of the all-time redemption narratives in comics.  This, combined with her sardonic, quippy style of humour and visually hit powers positions Songbird as one of the easiest characters to translate from comic to alive action.  And, as if that was not plenty, opportunities abound for her inclusion.  Songbird was a founding fellow member of the Thunderbolts, who are widely expected to appear in the MCU, and has a multitude of stories with many established and rising MCU characters, including Baron Zemo, Hawkeye, The Winter Soldier, and many more.  I could sing the praises of this character and her speculation value for dozens more than paragraphs, but instead I will merely link to this splendid essay about Songbird, as it does a far meliorate job than I ever could of showing how amazing a graphic symbol she is.

COMICS TO LOOK OUT FOR:

  • Marvel Two-In-Ane #54 – First appearance of Melissa Gold, specifically as Screaming Mimi
  • Beauty Vol. 1 #xiii – First comprehend appearance of Screaming Mimi
  • Incredible Hulk Vol. ane #449 – Showtime appearance of Melissa Golden every bit Songbird.  This volume is also the first appearance of the Thunderbolts
  • Thunderbolts Vol. ane #1 – Songbird revealed to be Screaming Mimi; First encompass appearance of Songbird

FUN FACT – In the 1999 mini-serial Avengers Forever, Kurt Busiek introduced an alternate-futurity version of Songbird that was a member of the Avengers.  This inspired Marvel continuity expert Al Ewing to include Songbird in the lineup of his New Avengers team in 2015.

Encounter the Skrulls #ane (Cover A and Variants)

WHAT IS IT – The beginning appearance of the Warner family unit, a group of Skrulls spies on Earth who are trying to accept downward a scientific project that could crusade untold impairment to the Skrull race, all while posing equally the average American family.

WHY IT IS A LOCK – Oh MAN do I love this book and its variants.  First of all, the thought is merely astounding.  See The Skrulls is basically what happens when you combine Undercover Invasion with The Americans.  At that place are certainly worse sources of inspiration for Marvel to pull from than one of the most critically lauded shows of all time.  Second, given the more intimate and sympathetic portrayal of the Skrulls in the MCU, it makes a lot of sense that the Secret Invasion tv show would take inspiration from what is perhaps the most intimate depiction of Skrulls in all of Marvel Comics.  Tertiary, Marvel recently announced that they would be re-releasing the trade paperback of Meet the Skrulls as Hush-hush Invasion: See the Skrulls, even though the original paperback is still in print and the Meet the Skrulls comic really has nothing to do with the Underground Invasion comic book event.  Why would Curiosity re-release an in-print volume with branding that ties information technology to an upcoming Tv show if the old was not going to be function of the latter?  The only reason I can think of is that the Warner family unit will be part of the recently announced Hole-and-corner Invasion sequel series.  Either way, Run into the Skrulls #1 would still meet an increase in value, making it a smart investment on both the comics and movie/television front.  Amongst the six different versions of this volume, the Incentive Niko Henrichon Variant is definitely THE volume to own, but each of them would almost certainly feel a rising in value were the Warners to show up in the MCU or the 2nd book of Secret Invasion.

Longshots

Shadowland: Ability Man #1 2nd Print

WHAT IS It – The kickoff advent of Victor Alvarez, the 2d Power Human being.  This second impress is MUCH rarer than the offset print, has a better comprehend than the showtime print (at least in my opinion), and sells for much more than the first impress.

WHY IT IS A LONGSHOT – Victor Alvarez has a lot going for him as a speculation opportunity for the MCU.  First of all, his powers are very cinematic in nature, as his power to assemble chi and envelope his body in a golden aura is basically the Marvel version of Super Saiyan.  Furthermore, his powers are really quite novel and unique, as the amount of chi he is able to gather is straight tied to the culture and history of his environs.  That is a really interesting particular, especially for a grapheme like Victor who grew upwards in the kind of afro-latino culture that many audiences may not be familiar with.  Given Curiosity'southward stated involvement in diversity, a character who tin literally embody it has a lot of intriguing upside.

Unfortunately, at that place are also a lot of cherry flags that stop Victor from being a lock.  For one thing, the character is, in many ways, a fusion of Luke Cage and Atomic number 26 Fist.  Given the crude reception that the starting time season of Luke Cage and the entirety ofIron Fist experienced, Marvel may non be jumping at the opportunity to adjust a graphic symbol that so speedily brings those failures to mind.  Conversely, Marvel may opt to rehabilitate the image of those ii characters and bring them into the MCU proper, merely similar they did with Daredevil and Kingpin.  Were that to happen, it does not seem very likely that Curiosity would also opt to include a grapheme and then functionally redundant.  Finally, while I am a fan of the cultural aspect of Victor'due south powers, information technology is not exactly an easy concept to explain or conform, specially when one considers that in that location is no announced MCU project where it would make sense to introduce and explain the character.  Ultimately, Victor Alvarez has a lot of potential, but there are enough red flags nowadays to render his inclusion in the MCU less than certain.

Bonus

Spiderling

WHO IS SHE – In an alternate universe where Marvel realized that marriage was not the thing that made the genius with Spider powers hard to relate to where Peter Parker and Mary Jane stayed married, they had a child named Annie May, who inherited her father'due south Spider powers.  Going by the codename Spiderling, Annie May teams up with her parents (YUP!  In this universe MJ gets Spider powers likewise and its crawly) to aid finish criminals and go on the people of New York safe, all while trying to deal with the everyday ups and downs of being a kid.Thank god Marvel never went this way in the main 616 universe.  I mean, how are readers supposed to relate to somebody who has kids?  Glad they went with something more than grounded like making Peter the CEO of a multi-billion dollar technology visitor.

WHY SHE IS A BONUS – I absolutely honeyAmazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows.  It is one of my absolute favorite comic book series of all time, due in no minor part to Spiderling.  The character'due south dizzying energy and enthusiasm leaps right off the page and brings out a very new side of Peter Parker and MJ.  Ane of the best things that the series did was hone in on the idea of family and how that forces Peter to reevaluate what his ethos of swell responsibility is really all near.  Information technology is some of the best Spider-Man storytelling that has ever been done and a large part of what drives it is Annie May.  For those reasons lone, the character is most definitely not a longshot.  The problem, and the affair that stops her from beingness a lock, is that she is non exactly unique in this regard.

In a previous issue of Locks and Longshots, I wrote that one of the things that stopped me from because Spider-Girl a lock was her numerous, admitting largely surface, similarities with Spiderling.  Well, the contrary is true every bit well.  Realistically, I do not see Sony adapting both of these characters, at least not in the same project.  Information technology took nigh a decade to get a Spider-Man motion-picture show that wasn't about Peter Parker.  I highly uncertainty the powers that exist are looking to tell a story virtually two of his daughters.  And so, viewed in that light, I really cannot say that one has significantly better prospects than the other.  Spider-Daughter is a more fleshed out grapheme with her ain rogues gallery, only Annie May has an adorable dimension to her that Spider-Daughter does non and her inclusion opens the door for Spinneret (Mary Jane with Spider powers).  Spiderling is almost definitely not a longshot, but she is non a lock either.  Thus, she is a bonus.
